You may have to wait a bit for an answer. Yeah, we're all pretty busy - so stick around after asking your question. Just because we aren't helping anymore on a regular basis, that doesn't mean thatĪre you a developer? Pick up where we left off. ![]() , it's pretty great - and those folks are doing a fantastic job. Here's what we're looking for from you, our users We will post the source code to either Google Code or Github. We will soon release the final version of Perian, including all the fixes we've worked on since the last release. We'll wrap up our loose ends, pack up our bags, and move on to new and exciting projects. Starting 90 days after the final Perian release, we will no longer provide support. Still, we reached a great stopping point and Perian's installed userbase proves how valuable this tool became to so many people. As an example, we would have liked an official, flexible, and well-documented import API to speed up MKV. There are some projects that we never got to. Today, Perian stands as complete as it ever will be under our stewardship. Our preferences were minimal, updating was easy, and we gradually grew the product to add in extras like subtitles and different formats. Our stewardship has been a blast but it's time for all of us to move on.įrom the beginning we kept Perian simple. Our team has attained that goal and with that in mind, Perian will be retired soon. ![]() We wanted to simplify viewing your content. We began the Perian project over 6 years ago. All that is left of it anymore is the name, just like Adobe, with its "Lumetri" in Premiere and color correction in acr without floating point.A notice to all of our users and supporters It will die with Apple, just like it did before Steve Jobs. Converters, like fleas around an unwashed dog) Think about it - make a framerate - no - code. The same perian is not even a beard anymore, it's an antique. Actually, third party writers have given up on it, too. ![]() You drop in any stream/container and link it to mov. Well, that's understandable - many things revolved around qt 7.x. In fact, it became an unnecessary burden. Don't get me wrong, I really like VLC, but if I had the option, I'd rather use the software that's already preinstalled. I can't imagine I'm the only one who would like to be able to just hit the space bar to play pretty much anything directly within Quicklook, or use QuickTime instead of other third party software. And if not, maybe someone with a better understanding of the technical hurdles and obstacles could help me understand why (at least to my knowledge) no similar projects have seen the light of day. Now, I was wondering if there have been any projects attempting to bring back something similar that have seen any level of success. (a migration to AVFoundation if I'm not mistaken, and possibly some more stuff). The thing I personally still miss the most about it is the nice integration it had with Quicklook, which after Perian's discontinuation has lost most of it's appeal for me, personally.įrom what I understand it was discontinued because the re-implementation of lower level libraries etc. Some of you might remember that, in the olden days (I think it was discontinued around 2012), there was that tool called Perian, which was pretty much a codec pack for OS X, or rather QuickTime.
